Hazel Gandhi
Hazel is a 22-year-old fact checker based in Mumbai. A mass media graduate from St Xavier's College, Mumbai, Hazel covered social media trends and pop culture at The Quint before pursuing fact checking full-time.
Mohammed Kudrati
Mohammed is a post-graduate in economics from the University of Mumbai, and enjoys working at the junction of data and policy. His specialisations include data analysis and political economy and he previously catered to the computational data analytical requirements of US-based pharmaceutical clients.
Karen Rebelo
Karen Rebelo works as an investigative reporter, fact-checker and a copy-editor at BOOM. Her specialization includes spotting and debunking fake images and viral fake videos. Karen is a former Reuters wires journalist and has covered the resources sector in the UK and the Indian stock market and private equity sector. She cut her teeth as a prime-time television producer doing business news shows.
Archis Chowdhury
Archis is a Senior Correspondent at BOOM, and covers issues related to technology and politics, along with writing fact-checks, and studying mis/disinformation. He has a bachelor's degree in political science from Paris Institute of Political Studies, and a master's degree in Media Studies (specialising in political communication), under the Erasmus Mundus Journalism Programme - a joint degree provided by Aarhus University of Denmark, and the University of Amsterdam. Prior to BOOM, Archis had worked as a freelance reporter for The Times of India, covering business news, and has also interned as a reporter for The Telegraph - ABP Group, covering local stories in Kolkata. His interests lie in sports - specifically running, cycling, and occasionally punching and kicking heavy bags - and he also likes to practice Vipassana meditation. His most enduring romance is with food - he loves to eat, as he loves to cook and feed others. Archis is also quite a geek and a nerd, and is obsessed with digital privacy, video games and science-fiction.
Swasti Chatterjee
Swasti Chatterjee is BOOM’s News Editor (East) and project coordinator of the two international verticals of BOOM in Dhaka (Bangladesh) and Yangon (Myanmar). She is a fact-checker and media literacy trainer; Swasti has worked in the mainstream media in the capacity of a senior correspondent and chief copy editor with publications including The Times of India, The Indian Express and NDTV.com. She has majorly covered films, education and city while her tenure with these organisations
Nivedita Niranjankumar
A former city correspondent covering crime, Nivedita is a fact checker at BOOM and works to stop the spread of disinformation and misinformation. When not at work, she escapes into second-hand bookstores, looking for magic or a mystery.
Sk Badiruddin
Sk Badiruddin is a Kolkata-based journalist and fact-checking staff at Boom's Bangla desk since 2019. Earlier, he was a translator for TRID India, news desk assistant of Onkar News, science news contributor for AIR Kolkata, and culture writer for a small scale newspaper. You can suggest him longreads about books, movies, culture, new media, or socio-political affairs; tools for open source investigation.
Jency Jacob
Jency Jacob is the Managing Editor of BOOM and has worked with some of the top television and print networks in the country over the last 2 decades. Jency manages a newsroom of enterprising fact checkers who are striving to keep our social media and public space clear of misinformation and communally sensitive disinformation that can result in real-life implications.
Govindraj Ethiraj
Govindraj Ethiraj is a television & print journalist and also Founder of IndiaSpend & FactChecker.in, data Journalism and fact check initiatives. He also anchors seasonal shows on Indian news television – recent ones being Aegons of Business on BloombergQuint and `Policy Watch’ on public service broadcaster Rajya Sabha or RS TV. Previously, he was Founder-Editor in Chief of Bloomberg TV India, a 24-hours business news service launched out of Mumbai in 2008. Prior to setting up Bloomberg TV India, he worked with Business Standard newspaper as Editor (New Media) with a specific mandate of integrating the newspaper’s news operations with its digital or web platform. He also spent around five years each with CNBC-TV18 & The Economic Times. He is a Fellow of The Aspen Institute, Colorado, a McNulty Prize Laureate 2018 & a winner of the BMW Foundation Responsible Leadership Awards for 2014.
H R Venkatesh
H R Venkatesh is Director, Training and Research. In addition, he developed and leads Media Buddhi, the media literacy initiative at BOOM. Prior to this, he was a John S. Knight journalism fellow at Stanford University. In 2018, he founded the Ekta News Coalition, a collaboration of newsrooms and fact-checkers. Venkatesh was also a Knight Fellow at the International Center for Journalists in 2017-18. In 2015, he was part of the editors' team that launched and built The Quint. For nine years, he was also the Senior Anchor at CNN-IBN. Venkatesh has been educated at Bangalore, Symbiosis and Oxford universities. He is a Bangalorean who is now based in New Delhi.
Ritika Jain
After an almost decade-long career as a photojournalist, Ritika returned to the fold as a journalist and now covers the Indian judiciary and all that it entails. Originally from Mumbai, she is now based out of Delhi. Ritika is a writer, part-time dreamer & full-time K-drama addict. A true Mumbaiite, Ritika graduated from Jai Hind College and completed her Masters from University of Westminster, London. Through her writing, she hopes to simplify the law, and decode the judiciary. Before joining BOOM, Ritika worked with several digital news portals, and cut her teeth with newspapers like DNA, and The Indian Express. Ritika started her career as a journalist, but found solace in photography. However, a decade later, she returned to the journalism where she found her true calling in writing stories. If not bingeing on k-dramas, you will find Ritika escaping the city and discovering the world.
Mohammad Salman
Mohammed Salman is a fact-checker at BOOM. He specialises in spotting and debunking mis/disinformation. He has studied journalism from IIMC, Delhi and Jamia Millia Islamia. When not at work, you can find him discussing contemporary issues, politics, sports and cinema at the chai tapri near you.
Srijit Das
Srijit Das is a fact-checker with BOOM. He is a software engineer and worked with the India Today's Fact Check team before joining BOOM. Besides investigation, Srijit loves to travel and read detective stories
Adrija Bose
Adrija Bose is a Senior Editor at BOOM Live. She has worked across several media publications including Firstpost, HuffPost India and CNN-News18. Her reportage focussing on gender, politics, human rights, environment and the Internet culture has won her several awards. She has won three UN Laadli Awards for gender sensitivity in reporting, the 2019 RedInk Awards for her reporting on Meghalaya’s coal miners and the Polestar Award for her story on Haryana’s female footballers. She leads Decode, a vertical for BOOM where the focus is on the intersection between technology and people's lives. She commissions, edits and reports on polarisation, disinformation and human rights.
Sista Mukherjee
Sista is a fact checker and social media lead at BOOM Bangla. She has previously interned at DataLEADS with their fact-checking team. She has completed her Master's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Aliah University, Kolkata. Besides fact-checking, she loves to travel and dance.
Sana Fazili
Sana Fazili is a Desk Writer at BOOM and works for the daily news coverage here. She writes explainers and breaking news stories as they happen. She started her career in one of the busiest newsrooms in the country. After a task of over three years, she decided to tread into the territory of well-researched news put in context. News is beyond 5W1H, after all.
Sourit Sanyal
A correspondent with BOOM and an ardent fan of sports, Sourit did his Master’s in Multimedia Journalism from Christ University, Bangalore, and now majorly covers sports news. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from AUD, Sourit also works on politics, the environment, global affairs and entertainment.
Divya Chandra
Divya Chandra is Producer, Workshops and Training at BOOM FactCheck. She conducts training sessions and LIVE workshops to teach the art of fact-checking. Previously, she was Correspondent-Fact Check at The Quint. She did her Masters in Journalism from Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication, Pune. When not fact-checking, you can find her at a cafe next door.
Sachin Baghel
Sachin Baghel is a fact checker with BOOM. Sachin has a post graduate degree in Political Science from University of Delhi & PG Diploma in Journalism from IIMC, New Delhi. Sachin has previously worked with Prasar Bharti and Jansatta, also has a sharp eye for political, economic disparity, communal & social justice related happenings in India and around the world.
Runjay Kumar
Runjay Kumar is a fact checker with BOOM Hindi. He has previously worked with Indian Express group as a News Writer and Inshorts. Runjay has completed PGDM in Hindi Journalism from Indian Institute of Mass Communication New Delhi.
Kashif Kakvi
Kashif Kakvi is an independent multimedia journalist who reports from central India-- Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. His reporting revolves around policies, governance and human rights, focussing on marginalised communities. He tweets at @KashifKakvi
Kaisar Andrabi
"Kaisar Andrabi is a correspondent of BOOM with four years of experience in reporting. He is based in Delhi and covers Politics, Human Rights, Gender, Health and Education. His work has been published in reputed media organisations like Foreign Policy, The Diplomat, Al Jazeera, Nikkei Asia, Huffpost, Article14, The Wire and others. He started his journalistic career in 2018 with The Kashmir Walla (a local popular magazine in Kashmir) as a features writer before switching to freelancer in 2019. He has travelled across the embattled region to document stories of human suffering, political costs and economic losses. In 2021, during the second wave of Covid -19, he produced a film for Indiaspend from Delhi about the failure of the government in handling the health crises across the country.
